Sometimes at Cube we are asked to assist on a project that we’re not expecting, and this is true of a recent call that came through asking if we could help manufacture some parts for a Dallara race car.
Through a Google search the local car owner, Mark Harrison, came to us to find a solution for a part that was needed for the restoration. The Dallara needed to replace a cast oil pipe, as a complex shape and a part that needed to withstand oil temperature and psi, it wasn’t to be a straightforward project and neither did he want it to be an expensive project.
At Cube we love to take on a challenge!
So, we teamed up with a fantastic supplier we use, Central Scanning based in Bromsgrove, to help us reverse engineer the existing part. We created a CAD model and then 3D Printed the new component in carbon fibre. The part was cheaper and produced more quickly than a cast and machined product and is now fitted to the car which helped propel Mark to pole position on both Saturday and Sunday at the first round of Monoposto Racing Clubs meeting at Donnington Park.
‘In privateer motorsport, cost is always a consideration when we are building cars. Working with Cube allowed us to keep to budget and critically reduce lead time of a complex part of which there are no original drawings.’ Mark Harrison
