Often, when a composite part is required a pattern will be manufactured. The pattern will typically be made from a model board material, which is low cost and easy to machine, but typically only suitable for taking one or two “splashes” of the tool.
This splash, in fibreglass, carbon fibre or other composite material can then become the tool for higher volume parts.
